Get Involved
Turning Up
The best way to get involved with the CU is just by attending our weekly events! Whether you can go to all of them or just one, showing up regularly helps you meet people and massively encourages the leaders of the CU. There is a full list of events on the website, and following our social media channels helps keep you in the loop about everything we do.
Teams aren't the whole story!
Lots of jobs are for everyone in the CU, not just people who have signed up for teams! Things like flyering (which we do when we run special events) are very personel-intensive and we often need more hands on the job. Always keep an eye out for ways you can lend a hand, announcements are typically made in CU Central, on the WhatsApp group, or in the weekly emails.
Teams
Teams are vital to the running of CU, they put on all of our regular events and make the larger non-regular events possible. We encourage you to take a look at the teams and consider where you might be able to best serve the CU. Whilst some teams are suited to people with particular skills, all members are welcome to join any of the teams, and the leaders are always happy to show you the ropes if you’re not sure.
Outreach Team
Hi, I’m Will and I lead the Explore team.
We exist to give people an extra chance to investigate the Christian faith, particularly after an event has happened. Normally this happens in the form of brunches with speakers, or courses which go through Uncover (Bible studies in a gospel). Of course you don’t have to wait for an event or an Explore course to read Uncover with a friend – get in touch and we can give you a copy! Explore is just as important as our events – maybe more so!
We would love your help with this! Whether it’s signing up to read Uncover with someone after an event or leading a Bible study at an Explore course, we need all the help we can get!
To get involved, send me an email or find grab me at a meeting. Thanks.
Hot Choc
Hi, we’re Josh, David, Freddy, Jamie, and Dawn and we lead the Hot Choc team.
If you’re passionate about extending God’s love to people on campus (and look good in yellow), Hot Choc is a great opportunity: we serve free biscuits and hot chocolate to students outside of POP every Wednesday. Meet us at 23:00 to pray, worship and just chat – at midnight we head out! We finish late (about 2:30am) but there’s no pressure to stay until the end or to come every week!
For more info, speak to one of us at the main meeting or join the Whatsapp group. We’re excited to meet you!
Tech Team
Hi! Tech Team is run by Tom, Simeon, and Dan.
Our primary role is to enable the production of CU Central, without us the band couldn’t play and the speaker wouldn’t be heard!!
There are two main aspects of this crucial role:
Sound: You are helping the musicians to sound how they want to. (Psych! We decide how they sound!) This involves running the sound desk (i.e. changing volume levels) and checking everything is making the right noises.
Visuals: You are changing slides for the music and ensuring that the visuals are correct to enable the musicians and speakers.
You don’t need to know anything going in, the only requirement is a willingness to serve! This team takes up a lot of time on Wednesday afternoons, so the more of us we have on the rota the better. Any help is greatly appreciated!
To get involved or find out more, join the Whatsapp group or just come and say hello at the main meeting!
Music Team
Hi! We’re Sam and Cam. We lead the music team for CU Central and are involved in planning music themed evangelistic events such as Barbacoustic.
As a CU we are passionate about singing, how through it we can learn more of and be drawn closer to God while being united together in mission to go and proclaim Jesus on campus.
We’re always looking for new musicians to join the music team, so if you sing or play an instrument, we’d love for you to get involved. You don’t need any previous experience of playing in a band or to be an incredibly talented musician, just someone who is passionate about worship.
If you’d like to get involved, join the GC or say hi to us at the main meeting!
Food Team
Hi, I’m David and I lead the food team.
This involves coordinating all the food for outreach events that the CU put on, as having free food is a great way to get people into events. This includes lunchbars, which consist of a talk on a relevant issue with a question and answer session, as well as free lunch.
The food team helps prepare the food- it’s an amazing way to serve and get to know others in the CU!
I’d love for you to join the team, if you are interested talk to me at the main meeting or join the Whatsapp group!
International Team
Hi, I’m Chloe and I lead the International team.
International café is a place where people from all nations can have an open discussion about the Bible together alongside a meal. Everyone is welcome!
We would love to have you on our team! You can get involved with cooking, shopping, setting up and down, being part of discussion groups, giving talks and praying. It is a privilege to be part of God’s work on campus and see so many people get to know Jesus and decide to follow Him.
If you want to get involved, talk to me at the main meeting or drop me an email. Thank you!
Publicity Team
Hi, I’m Emily, and I have the pleasure of serving as Publicity Coordinator this year!
Publicity is key to all that we do as a CU, and entails a variety of creative roles! From designing flyers, editing videos, photographing events, manning interactive stations across campus, and everything in between. It’s the responsibility of the whole of the CU to publicise its events and invite people along, but the Publicity team handles the physical and digital publicity.
Whether you’re a creative mastermind, a newbie photographer or simply have a passion for making the Good News of Jesus known, we’d love to have you on the team! Join our WhatsApp group, or email me to find out more!
Web Team
We’re David and Tom, the Webmasters!
The Webmasters are responsible for managing the CU website, email addresses and a number of other jobs. The website is often the first thing people who are interested in the CU see (we get thousands of clicks a month!), so it’s one of the most important teams! Some of the work is small, but sometimes we have to overhaul huge sections of the site.
Some tasks, like server administration, are better suited to those with more experience, but some tasks can be done with minimal knowledge. We need people with a keen eye for detail to keep the website looking good and up-to-date with the latest information. Please get in touch if you’re interested in helping the web team!
